Mud Run - Race day tips

Hello everyone,

We are closing in on our upcoming JailBreak 5K Mud Run (Oct-27-2012). In preparation for race day I thought I would offer some tips:

- eat your breakfast/lunch 1 1/2 to 2 hours before race time, be sure to replenish after the race as well

- be sure to stay hydrated

- find out if you will need to pay for parking and be sure to have cash

- arrive to the race one hour before your race time so you have time to check in (pick up your packet, REMEMBER YOUR ID)
~ getting there early will also give you time to stretch and warm up
~ you'll have time to get a bathroom break before the race

- Get dressed for mud and water
     ~ do not wear jewelry/shades/goggles
~ wear clothes that you don't mind getting soaked in mud
~ wear light weight clothes since wet clothes will weigh you down
~ avoid sweats, thick or loose fitting cotton to prevent chaffing
~ wear ankle socks, preferably the ones made for running. This will prevent blisters and help your feet feel just as good as the day before the event. Definitely no cotton socks. Cotton + water = blisters. Knee high socks will act like ankle weights when wet.
~ consider protecting your body from possible cuts or scrapes by wearing long pants (recommend are running pants or tights)

- double tie your shoe laces and make sure your shoes are secure, you could lose a shoe running through mud trails or in mud pits

- bring a change of clothes and shoes, you'll want to change out of your muddy wet clothes after your race

- bring a bag to put your muddy and wet clothes in to take home
~ believe it or not, the mud does come out of your clothes! All clothes will get seriously wet and dirty during this event. Rinse off as much mud from your as you can. It comes off easier if you're still wearing your clothes. Soak everything (even your shoes/boots) in a garbage can or other container and keep rinsing and soaking until the majority of mud has disappeared. Then you can throw your clothes in the washing machine.

- listen to your body, during the race take breaks when you need them

- Most importantly, have fun, and enjoy the post-race festivities!
